Research Topics
The fluctuation in the creation periods of renewable energies will make it necessary to store electricity to ensure long-term security of supply in the power network. We are currently working on two technological approaches to reach this goal.
The foreseeable electrification of the transport sector will allow us to use the storage capacities of each vehicle to stabilise the electricity grid. For this reason we are developing storage systems for mobile application. We are also developing stationary systems such as redox flow batteries.
Our research activities in the field of energy storage facilities therefore focus on the following research topics:
Optimising the energy and power density of electrochemical battery storage requires a detailed understanding of electrochemical processes and physical phenomena. Therefore, NEXT ENERGY develops and characterises electrodes for lithium-ion accumulators as well as components for vanadium redox flow batteries.
Modern secondary batteries must be equipped with an intelligent electrical and thermal management down to the cell. The according management strategies aim for various aspects such as security, reduction in degradation, improved range prognoses, and an increased energy efficiency.
